Slot punching centres as a tandem line
Linear feeder
The sheet metal transport through the entire system is realised by specially developed linear feeders. These provide safe and fast transport and optimum accessibility for the set-up processes.
Tooling
Newly developed tooling enables extremely fast set-up processes. By reducing the number of components, the susceptibility to faults is significantly reduced.
Offset filing
Depending on the size of the finished discs, several stacks can be offset on a pallet.
Sound insulation
The soundproofing elements are integrated into the machine frame and ensure a significant reduction in noise pollution.
Modular design
The punching centre has a modular design and can be expanded according to requirements and functions.
Production of rotor and stator laminations in one work step
In a tandem slot punching centre, one rotor and one stator plate are produced in a single work step.
Variable use in production
Both grooving punches of the punching centre can be operated independently of each other as a “single” grooving centre.
Both parts of the system can also be operated together as a tandem grooving centre.
To enable staggered set-up, the sheets can be passed through directly, or alternatively the pallet can be fed to the second part of the system via a corner transfer unit.
Use of 2 stacking and destacking stations per system section for uninterrupted production
The use of 2 stacking and destacking stations ensures uninterrupted production.
Automatic loading and unloading of pallets
The pallets with the sheet metal stacks are positioned on the chain conveyors and transported onwards through the system accordingly.
Double sheet detection
Measurement of the sheet thickness to prevent the feeding of double sheets.
Sheet metal rolling function integrated in tooling
Sheets are separated from each other by lifting the suction cups locally, thus ensuring that only one sheet is removed from the stack and fed in.
Optical measurement of the electrical sheets
The sheet metal blank is photographed and measured according to the sheet characteristics. The sheet metal is then aligned in the x and y directions, as well as the c‑axis, so that the sheet metal can be precisely inserted into the grooving press.
// Application example
Slot punching centres as a tandem line
Slot cutter as tandem line in U‑shape
In this application example, a grooving centre is designed as a double single grooving press. Production can be carried out independently on each part of the system.
Both parts of the system can be linked together via a transfer point and the system can be used as a tandem system.
This function gives the system operator maximum flexibility in production.
Particular emphasis was placed on output and compactness as well as easy handling by the operator.
The use of 2 stacking and 2 destacking stations ensures uninterrupted production.
Thanks to the U‑shaped arrangement of the system concept, the space requirement can be reduced and can also be integrated into existing production areas.

Questions and answers
Normally, a tool change in a tandem grooving press takes less than 35 minutes, including tooling of the loader setup.
A tandem slot punching centre is required to punch so-called “slots” out of electrical sheets.
Slot punching centres contain both the slot punching machine itself and the entire automation system in a compact and modular design. The tandem system can be used as 2 single systems or as a complete system, in which case the stator and rotor can be punched in a single operation.
Electrical sheets for the production of stators/rotors for electric motors.
Electrical steel sheets are automatically fed into the system and separated, aligned and inserted fully automatically into a slot punching centre. In slot punching centres as a tandem line, the stator and rotor can be processed fully automatically in one system. Both electrical sheets are then stacked with clean edges.
Different modes can be selected, e.g. to place blanks in a twisted position to compensate for rolling inaccuracies.
An electrical steel sheet therefore usually takes 3–5 seconds, depending on the number of strokes and the diameter of the electrical steel sheets.
Compared to a solid tool, grooving centres are cheaper to purchase. The customer can punch different products much more flexibly and fully automatically.
As a rule, the slotting centre is operated as a tandem with 800 – 1200 strokes per minute. In Hagel Automation’s tandem slot punching centre, 720 – 1200 electrical steel sheets can be produced per hour for the stator and rotor, which are stacked with clean edges.
Hagel Automation is a technology leader in the field of slotting centres and offers products at the highest technological level, which are characterised by maximum precision and efficiency.
As a rule, it currently takes 12 – 18 months from order to delivery.
Hagel Automation specialises in the design and construction of slotting centres. Hagel Automation supplies efficient, modern and highly precise production lines in the field of electrical sheet production.
